Originating from a lightbulb moment of a young Albany Mountain Bike Club member, Travis Fage, who realised the potential Albany had to host an urban downhill event, the concept of the Albany Urban Downhill was conceived in June 2013. The Albany Mountain Bike club relies heavily on its volunteer committee and after runing two successful events since the first Albany Urban Downhill event in 2014, the organisers decided to call on an experience event management team to assist them in taking this exhilarating event to the next level.
In 2016 Project3 entered into a 3 year partnership with the Albany Mountain Bike Club partnered to develop an all-encompassing multi day MTB festival. A new cross country 30km and 50km stage race was introduced through some of the most picturesque and challenging terrain that Albany has to offer. The Jump Comp was revitalised for centre stage in the middle of Albany’s bustling CBD and the new Event Village at the Albany Town Square for the weekend. Southern MTB goes from strength to strength today with the template developed through the partnership. The partnership also delivered great capacity building outcomes for the local Albany community with greater event management and planning skills passed on to the volunteer mountain bike community.
